Professional Electrical System Installation Process in Vietnam

The demand for electrical system installation in Vietnam is increasing rapidly with the development of industries and urban areas. To ensure safety and efficiency, the installation process must be carried out professionally and adhere to strict standards.

I. Steps in the Electrical System Installation Process

1. Survey

  • Site Survey: Assessing the terrain, environment, and influencing factors.
  • Needs Assessment: Gathering information about the project’s electricity usage requirements.

2. Design

  • Creating Design Drawings: Based on the survey results, engineers will design the appropriate electrical system.
  • Design Approval: The design drawings need to be approved by relevant authorities.

3. Construction

  • Preparation of Materials and Equipment: Procuring and checking the quality of electrical equipment.
  • System Installation: Installing according to the approved design drawings.
  • Construction Supervision: Ensuring compliance with safety and quality regulations during construction.

4. Inspection and Maintenance

  • System Inspection: Testing and checking the entire electrical system before putting it into operation.
  • Regular Maintenance: Performing maintenance according to the schedule to ensure stable system operation.

II. Electrical Grid Model in Vietnam and Safety Standards

II.1. Vietnam’s Electrical Grid Model

Vietnam’s electrical system includes power plants, electrical grids, and consumers interconnected to carry out four processes: production, transmission, distribution, and consumption of electricity. The voltage levels operating on Vietnam’s electrical system include 500kV, 220kV, 110kV, 35kV, 22kV, 10kV, 6kV, and 0.4kV with an operating frequency of 50 Hz. The phase and wire structure typically includes 3-phase, 2-phase, and 1-phase systems.

  1. Power Plants:
    • Locations where electricity is generated from various energy sources such as thermal power plants, hydropower plants, and nuclear power plants.
  2. Electrical Grids:
    • System Grid: Connects power plants to each other and to regional load nodes, operating at 500 kV.
    • Transmission Grid: The grid from regional intermediate substations to high-voltage busbars supplying local intermediate substations (110-220 kV).
    • Distribution Grid: From local intermediate substations to load substations, including medium voltage distribution (6-35kV) and low voltage distribution (220-380V).

II.2. Common Electrical Systems

Voltage levels in Vietnam are classified as follows:

  1. Low Voltage System:
    • Used for residential and small industrial applications.
    • Voltage below 1kV, commonly from 220V-380V.
  2. Medium Voltage System:
    • Used in industries and large infrastructure.
    • Voltage from 1kV to 35kV, commonly 22kV.
  3. High Voltage System:
    • Used for power plants and large transmission systems.
    • Voltage from 35kV to 220kV.
  4. Ultra High Voltage System:
    • Used for long-distance transmission and large projects.
    • Voltage above 220kV.

II.3. Safety Standards and Regulations

Electrical system installation must comply with national and international safety standards such as IEC and TCVN. These standards specify safety measures for labor, equipment, and the environment.

  1. Safety Distances for Different Voltage Levels:
    • Low Voltage: 0.3m
    • 1kV to 15kV: 0.7m
    • 15kV to 35kV: 1.00m
    • 35kV to 110kV: 1.50m
    • 110kV to 220kV: 2.50m
    • 220kV to 500kV: 4.50m

Adhering to the installation process and safety standards not only ensures the efficient operation of the electrical system but also protects the safety of users and equipment. Choosing a reputable contractor is crucial to ensuring the quality of the project.
